Viridis the historical game that makesyou play heros

Our game uses joy as a social glue

Viridis 1001 Trésors de l’Est is a collaborative treasure hunt set in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood. The story takes place in the 1900s, with players taking on the roles of historical figures from the era and searching for clues around the city to uncover the causes of a mysterious murder that occurred a few days earlier.

The aims of this project are to actively contribute to addressing the following challenges: reducing social isolation and encouraging people to take ownership of public spaces; promoting intergenerational and intercultural encounters and collaboration; in a context of misinformation: players must cross-reference sources and separate fact from fiction, confront different points of view and exercise their critical thinking skills to find the truth; to entertain and amuse players in order to foster joy in today's society; to promote entertainment that is both responsible and good for the environment; to strengthen players' knowledge of culture and our historical local heros.

Viridis meets a societal need

Viridis meets a societal need by being a game that gets people moving and enables systemic change through movement. It is a low-tech game, accessible to all, which encourages reconnection with reality and the environment. It contributes to the creation of social diversity within the community by bringing together a variety of people around a collective experience. Finally, Viridis is an eco-friendly game: the course is 100% on foot with recycled and reusable accessories, reinforcing the game's positive social, environmental and human impact.

Viridis 1001 Trésors de l'Est team and support

Graphic designers, historians, communication experts, facilitators, designers, and game designers—they all played an important role in bringing this project to life.

In addition to this wonderful team, several partners helped bring the project to life: SDC Hochelaga Créatif et Authentique, La Maison de l’innovation sociale, Les Artisans d’Azure, the Atelier d'histoire Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and several merchants whose names we must keep confidential so as not to give too much away!

This project was made possible thanks to financial support from the Government of Canada, through Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, and the Government of Quebec, through the Ministry of Employment and Social Solidarity in 2025.

The 2026 version of the project is being carried out with financial support from the Government of Quebec and the City of Montreal as part of the Montreal Cultural Development Agreement.

It was a truly wonderful experience that exceeded my expectations. We didn't really know what to expect, and we were pleasantly surprised! It's a great family activity that allows you to get some fresh air and interact with people who share the same passion for life-size murder mystery games. The game flows smoothly and is easy to play, which promotes good rapport between all players, young and old alike.

I loved my experience at Viridis 1001 Treasures of the East. The sense of community was the most wonderful surprise. No competition, no performance. Just a group growing together.

I loved seeing how open, approachable and willing the participants were to play characters, share together and have a good laugh as a group.
